This solicited proposal is one of my favorite projects; it gave me the opportunity to practice a more authentic process of finding a Request for Proposal (RFP) on Grants.gov, then writing a proposal designed for that RFP. I chose a USDA posting called Farm of the Future.
The Farm of the Future RFP was a funding opportunity for Land Grant universities with programs that researched the use of advanced technology for agricultural innovation. I created a fictional educational trade school called Digital Agriculture Institute (DAI) as proxy. I initially picked the Farm of the Future because of existing knowledge of sustainable agriculture; however, I ended up doing research on the operation of educational institutions; primarily for my qualifications and budget sections, but also to learn about Land Grant Universities.
Each section of the proposal received a week of research, drafting, and peer reviewing. The curriculum covered everything from brainstorming, outlining, language, to genre conventions of each section. By the end of the course, all the pieces of my proposal were peer reviewed and revised; I just had to wrap them up into an aesthetic package.
