Museum Trifold Brochure Guide with Map

This assignment was a format I'm very familiar with—a brochure—coupled with an user need I had not designed before: a usable map. The guide also needed to communicate information that the museum would find important, such as new exhibits and events.

Designing was a blast; since I am comfortable with Illustrator I could focus on imagining my perfect museum and ensuring users got the most out of my brochure. Although the project was based on a fictional science museum, I frequently visited the city Museum of Nature & Science in Las Cruces, NM, and have done several tours of the Houston Museum of Natural Science. My fictional museum was based on what I would need as a visitor to a museum that was somewhere between the two in size and focus.

The most challenging aspect was keeping everything readable in such a small space. Choosing identifiable icons for each exhibit was also challenging—making things accessible for non-English speakers is important to me, so I spent some time working through different icon options and checking my assumptions.
